Health

There is a growing concern on the possibility of heat wave. Department of Health has decided to declare heat wave period from April to June. Heat wave preparedness through IEC materials, involvement of NGO, community workers and women’s group in process. The IEC materials speak of prevention of heat stroke, symptoms and care to be taken. Control Rooms will also be set up at PHC and CHC levels.

The IEC materials have reached the community level. Secretary Health has requested all NGOs including UN to provide all assistance in tackling heat wave. Distribution of UNICEF/UN supported printing of 20 lakhs IEC were monitored by the NUNVs at the district and block level

All issues relating to heat wave reviewed weekly in state level coordination committee meetings in UN House.

UNICEF to provide 30 lakhs ORS packets and Rs. 4 lakhs as contingency funds for running of Control rooms during the heatstroke season.

The national UN Volunteers are increasing the heat wave preparedness and assisting the government of Orissa in ensuring the success of the heat wave preparedness campaign.

UN has appealed to all NGOs and Donors for taking up summer-cum-monsoon shelters. The response has been quite positive. For assistance required UN has started help line service (098610-90158).
